Try-It-Out Thursday Challenge F

It's Thursday!!!  That means I have another Try-It-Out science challenge for you!

Today's challenge is another INERTIA challenge.  By now, I know that you know the law of inertia states that an object in motion or at rest will remain in motion or at rest, unless acted on by an outside force.   Let's test this law again today with a fun experiment!

Below is the experiment I want you to try.  You will need an empty plastic bottle, a pencil, and a piece of paper.  At our house, we just cut a piece of regular notebook paper in half lengthwise.

Click HERE to see a VIDEO of Tucker and Tate demonstrating; then I want you to give it a try!

I'd love to see you experimenting with this challenge!  You can email me a picture or a short video of your attempts at moving the paper out from under the bottle but leaving the bottle in place at shannon.bryant@fpdmacon.org.

Hi, girls and boys!  It's WOW WEDNESDAY again from the FPD Science Lab!

Let's take a look at an amazing creature God has made using the book Encyclopedia of Extremely Weird Animals!  Today let's learn about the Markhor!

Read this...

What fact about this animal did you find most amazing?  Here are a few photos of other markhors in the wild.  How about those horns?!

It's Time for Science Tour Tuesday - Let's Go to a Museum!

Click the museum image below for today's virtual SCIENCE TOUR...let's head out on a field trip to a dinosaur museum!

I've got a fun idea for you to try.  Why don't you plan your own museum?!  What exhibits would you have there?  What kinds of hands-on activities would you have for kids?

3rd graders, I am SO PROUD of you!!!

Violet has been busy with more science at home!  Click HERE and HERE to see her experiment with gears and take a tour of her garden!

Kash and Rani have also been experimenting with inertia.  Click HERE to see them.

We also have another mystery microscope picture guess--Mary Suzanna thinks it might be an ant that I'm looking at!

We'll find out the correct answer on Monday!  Have a great weekend! Mrs. Bryant

More Mystery Microscope Guesses

I've gotten even more great guesses today!

Charlotte guesses it could be a light bulb...

Bradley guesses it might be a leaf...

Has anyone guessed correctly?????
Keep those guesses coming!!!  We'll find out on Monday!

Try-It-Out Thursday Challenge E

It's Thursday!!!  That means I have another Try-It-Out challenge for you!

Today's challenge is like our week B challenge--it's all about INERTIA.  What is inertia?  Do you remember?  The law of inertia states that an object in motion or at rest will remain in motion or at rest, unless acted on by an outside force.

Below is the experiment I want you to try.  All you need is a stack of coins, checkers, or plastic chips.  (We used quarters, because we found that larger coins were easier to work with.)

Click HERE to see a VIDEO of Tate demonstrating; then I want you to go give it a try!

I'd love to see you experimenting with this challenge!  You can email me a picture or a short video of your attempts at moving the bottom coin and leaving the stack in place at shannon.bryant@fpdmacon.org.

Hughes and Sterling guess it could be a bird egg...

Emily Collins thinks it might be pollen...

And Laura guesses it could be a seed...

Hmmmm, is anybody right so far?????

Keep your guesses coming!!!  We'll find out on Monday!

Wow Wednesday - The Mudskipper

Hi, girls and boys!  It's time for WOW WEDNESDAY from the FPD Science Lab!

Remember to check back each Wednesday as we're looking at an amazing creature God has made using the book Encyclopedia of Extremely Weird Animals!  Today let's look at the Mudskipper!

Read this...

Oh my goodness!  Their faces are adorable!  Let's look at a few photos of them in the wild.

Click HERE for a VIDEO to learn even more about mudskippers!  Eeeek, close your eyes when the predator comes along if you want.

Would you like to be a mudskipper?  Why or why not?  How about creating an illustration of yourself as a fish?  I'd love to see them when you are done if you want to send me a pic. shannon.bryant@fpdmacon.org

I'll see you back here tomorrow for Try-It-Out Thursday!!!
