3rd Grade Soil Science (1) Distance Learning Day Lab

1.    Review the “Soil” PowerPoint attached in your parent email. Fill out the “What makes up Soil?” notes handout your teacher gave you.

2.   Watch: “The Dirt on Dirt” - http://viewpure.com/if29mjcd5bc?ref=search (4min)

3.   Watch: http://www.viewpure.com/VeuQeAxJIjs?ref=bkmk

4.   Create your own soil sample! Get an empty water bottle or clear glass (ask your parents first!). Using a funnel (make a paper one if needed by rolling a sheet of paper), add a ½ cup to 1 cup of soil from your yard into the empty bottle/cup. Next, add water to almost full. Shake your water and soil mixture (if in a bottle) or stir mixture (if in a glass). Let it sit for several hours! Then, go to step 4.

5.   Using your sample, complete the “Soil Particle Layering” handout from your teacher (on the backside of your notes). Return to your teacher on Wednesday.
