Eggstreme Engineering!

This week our FPD 5th graders had a special STEAM challenge to tackle!  Students were asked to create an ELF TRANSPORT SYSTEM that could safely drop an egg from the High School Bridge to the ground using a variety of materials such as balloons, tape, newspaper, straws, rubber bands, and more.
See below for pictures from our fun challenge...

Snow Day!

Today was a "SNOW" day for 2nd grade in the science lab!  We learned about the amazing adaptations God designed that enable animals to survive in the coldest parts of the world.

Then the students participated in 2 experiments using chemical reactions to generate cold water and then cold "snow."  We even built snowmen in the science lab!

Want to try this at home?  Just mix 3 cups of baking soda with 1/2 cup of  white hair conditioner.  Add water if your "snow" is too powdery.

Ginger Snaps, Ginger Ale, and Ginger Science!

This week in Science Lab, our FPD kindergarteners were busy learning about the ginger plant.  We held a ginger root, studied photos of ginger plants, tasted ginger ale and ginger snaps, and used ginger powder in an art project.  Yummy and fun!

Chemical Reactions

What happens when you combine calcium chloride, baking soda, citric acid, and water?  That's what these 5th grade chemists discovered today as we wrapped up our Mixtures and Solutions unit in Science Lab.
