Testing a Hypothesis!

Today during 4th grade science lab time, students went outside to fly their airplanes constructed of copy paper, construction paper, and cardstock. Students were anxious to see which type of plane would fly the farthest. With a gentle breeze, copy paper took the lead. As the winds increased throughout the afternoon, the construction paper planes pulled ahead. What a fun way to spend a Friday!

Soil Investigations

The 3rd graders were so excited to see how their soil sample tubes turned out from last week's lab.  Look at all the layers of sediment!

On Thursday, they also learned about physical and chemical weathering using samples of shale and sandstone.

Mooooooo!

Today the FPD kindergarteners enjoyed a special science lab all about cows!  Students "milked a cow" and made graphic organizers about various milk products that we enjoy.  They had a blast using our mama cow model--along with gloves and white paint mixed with water--in order to simulate the milking process.  What a fun learning opportunity!

First Grade STEAM Challenge!

Today our FPD first graders used their creative and critical thinking skills to complete a STEAM challenge.  STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics.

Their challenge was to create a raft that could balance pennies while floating in water.  Today students built their rafts, and later in the month we will test out their innovative designs.
